In their Own Words
My passion for art really kicked in at a young age, I loved arts and crafts and was always making things. I used to take part in a great local village country show from 9 years old and my enthusiasm for art began there and developed at high school.
My style developed at A level time, I lost both my parents to cancer within 10 months of each other and actually ended up dropping out of A-levels. I was still very focussed on studying art so I independently built up a portfolio while I was out of the education system and began automatic drawing and doodling, with black pen/ink which formed a lot of my work. I used this portfolio of work to get onto an art foundation course and then was accepted onto the BA at Goldsmiths, University of London. I exploded my doodling here further in a dynamic, contemporary and critical environment and developed confidence in my practice. I graduated in 2006. By now a doodler to the extreme and made large scale paintings and drawings, rooms and installations out of my doodles.
I started Custom Cubed in 2015. I had a young family and was just finishing maternity leave and took redundancy from my teaching job to begin a business from home.
Having lost my parents at a young age and have held onto the most insignificant but actually significant little mementoes, I explored the idea of Keepsake boxes.
Also, I had reached the time in life where everyone is getting married and having babies and I needed cool gifts.
All these paths crossed and I found Foldabox and began Illustrating Keepsake Boxes.
Foldabox works so well for me being a small business and a working from home mum; I'm short on time and space and I need an easy, friendly, reliable and fast supply of quality products. I've found this time and time again in Foldabox. Also it’s fantastic that as they continually develop their boxes and products so it facilitates my own development, artistically and business wise. It's been a fantastic journey so far and every aspect has exceeded my expectations.
