How does it work?

Step 1: Design Block Engraved

Your logo or design is precisely engraved into a metal die (also referred to as a block, plate or stamp), forming the tool that creates the logo impression

Step 2: Job Set-up

The foil chosen to complement your chosen stock box colour is mounted on the foil blocking machine. The engraved metal die is carefully aligned, and a series of test impressions are carried out on a sample to refine the heat and pressure settings for a clean, even result..

Step 3: Heat & Press

Once testing is complete, your design is applied using controlled heat and pressure to bond the foil to the box surface. Each box is finished individually to ensure exceptional accuracy and consistency.

Step 4: Finished Result

Your boxes are complete, featuring your logo or design in a beautifully understated metallic or matt tone-on-tone foil. The impression sits slightly recessed into the surface for an elegant, high-end finish.

Can I get a printed sample box?

Yes, we can produce a physical printed sample, but please note that it can be costly due to the set-up involved. To keep things efficient, we provide a free digital proof of your logo on your chosen gift box style. This is supplied for your approval before we proceed with your bulk order, and most customers find it gives a good visual representation of the final printed result.

Can I print a logo with gradients or shading?

No, foil is a solid branding technique so it is not possible to include gradients or shading, but we can produce a design like this using multi-colour digital printing.

How do you find a matching foil tone to the box?

For ease we have hand-picked the best colour matches for each of our gift box colours. Scroll up to our foil section and download the PDF to see all matching foils for our boxes. Some box colours (such as linens) work best with a slight contrast foil colour, or you can select your own preferred match.

My logo is very small, will this work for Tone-on-tone foil?

Although very small logos or designs including fine details do usually work using tone-on-tone foil, it’s quite a discreet finish. If you’re looking for a bolder look or are worried about some of the details, we advise selecting 1 colour foil instead for a better contrast against the box surface.

Can I be see foil swatches in person?

Yes, we can arrange to send out tone-on-tone foils in the post if you would like to see the foil colour against the box, before purchasing your bulk printed gift box order.

Can I select another foil shade for tone-on-tone foil?

Yes, if you prefer another foil shade and think it goes better with the selected box paper, you can indeed select another foil for tone-on-tone foil!
